Biographie

Klaus Lichtenegger is born in Austria in 1977. His parents’ philosophy « tools instead of toys » makes him discover the magic of materials in early life.

At the age of fifteen, this leads him to enter a high school for mechanical engineering, where he gets a solid foundation in materials science and design principles.The core of the programme comprises in-depth specialty workshops for carpentry, forging, foundry, welding, machining, processing of sheet metal and material compounds.

After graduation in 1998, he moves to Milan/ the Lake Como region, getting in touch with the essence of the « Made in Italy ». As a a travelling journeyman of sorts, he gets into intense contact with designers and architects.

His philosophy begins to center just between the academic on the one hand, and the tradition of crafts on the other, which both he will later intend to outstrip.

In 2001, at a time where he has gained some financial freedom, he founds his first studio, allowing himself to « just play » with materials.In the four years to follow, an intense phase of travel exposes him to countless new materials and ways of workmanship.

In 2006, he settles in Tuscany, where he finds the peace and quiet to elaborate what he has before invented in his mind. This is the phase where a large series of prototypes evolves, difficult to categorize, but always at the heart of his philosophy.

Klaus Lichtenegger nasce nel 1977 in Austria, vicino la confine con l’Italia. Per lui, la filosofia dei suoi genitori « tools instead of toys » porta con se la precoce rivelazione del mondo magico dei materiali. All’età di 15 anni comincia a frequentare una scuola tecnica superiore,dove riceve un’ampia base di scienza dei materiali e dei principi della costruzione.

Segue corsi specializzati nei settori della falegnameria, forgiatura, fonderia, saldatura,tornitura/fresatura, lavorazione di lamiere e dei materiali combinati.

Dopo il diploma si trasferisce a Milano/Lago di Como, dove fa la conoscenza del « Made in Italy » facendo contatto con parecchi designer ed architetti.

È questo il tempo quando la sua filosofia comincia a concentrarsi proprio alla metà tra il sistema academico e la tradizione artigianale.

Nel 2001, sfruttando una fase economica favorevole, costituisce il suo primo studio, e si concede di « nient’altro che giocare con i materiali ».

Nei quattro anno seguenti, una fase intensiva di viaggi di studio lo fa conoscere innumerevoli materiali e modi di lavorazione.

Nel 2006 si trasferisce in Toscana, dove trova le condizioni ottime per elaborare quello che prima si è ideato. È questa la fase quando si sviluppa un grande numero di prototipi, sempre fuori classificazione, ma sempre al cuore della propria filosofia.

Au lycée, il s’oriente vers une filière technique où il obtient une base) solide en science des matériels et des principes de conception.Le cœur du programme comprend des ateliers de spécialisation en charpenterie, contrefaçon, fonderie, soudage, usinage et traitement de tôle. Diplômé en 1998, il part à Milan dans la région du Lac de Côme où il entre en contact avec l’essence du « Made in Italy » et noue de nombreux contacts avec des designers et architectes.

Sa philosophie se concentre alors à la frontière entre le système académique et la tradition artisanale.

En 2001, profitant d’une certaine liberté financière, il fonde son premier atelier lui permettant de s’adonner pleinement à son désir de ne créer qu’en jouant avec les matériaux. Les quatre années qui suivent sont pour lui une phase intensive de voyages et de découvertes d’innombrables matières et manières de travailler.

En 2006 il s’établit en Toscane, où il trouve les conditions excellentes pour élaborer ce qu’il a toujours en à l’esprit. C’est plus que jamais une phase prolifique de création où il réalise un grand nombre de prototypes, toujours hors classement et toujours au cœur de sa propre philosophie.
